National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI)

Cooperation with training on NSDI is one thing Mr. Mostafa, CP of the Project, requested of JICA. According to materials released by CAPMAS, a constituent organization of MOPMAR, at the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), the former MOP is positioned as a leading organization for promoting the introduction of NSDI to the Egyptian government. We consider the provisioning of training to be highly significant as it will lead to the support of functional enhancement not only for the former MOP but also for MOPMAR overall. The expected effects of NSDI training are an increase in the accuracy of examination and evaluation of public investment projects on the part of ministries and agencies, and monitoring and evaluation (“M&E”) in the implementation stage of projects, performed by MOPMAR.

(1) The Project will coordinate the training curriculum by taking into consideration Egypt’s requests.

(2) The training period will be up to about two weeks (excluding travel time) in late January 2016.

(3) The training site will be the Geographical Survey Institute of Ministry of Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, JICA, or domestic private companies involved in JICA’s GIS, NSDA-related, and other projects.

In this training, trainees will learn about the history of development of NSDI in Japan and the legal system and techniques necessary for the development of this system. At the same time, they will inspect the present site of use and application of NSDI to grasp the overall picture of NSDI in Japan and obtain the knowledge and information necessary to facilitate the development of NSDI in Egypt.
